It's no secret that this year has seen its fair share of modern takes on retro Nike designs. Whether it be fusing two silhouettes together like the Vapormax Plus, or adding innovative and unique touches to already classic designs, like the Air Force 1 Jester, Nike has truly surpassed its creative expectations.
Beginning with the Skepta collaboration, Nike developed the Air Max 97/BW, featuring characteristics from both the Air Max 97 and Air Max BW (Big Window). Being such dynamic, game-changing silhouettes, it's no surprise that the shoe continues receiving extensive anticipation and hype.
If you're a big Air Max BW fan, you've probably noticed the iconic "Persian Violet color way strutting around town millions of times before. When the silhouette was originally released in 1991, the shoe quickly became one of the hottest kicks on the market and established its place as a staple for distance runners and, moreover, a favored accessory to the era's R&B and hip-hop stars--as proven on countless album covers at the time. Just a mere 6 years later, the Air Max 97 dropped, with a sole so recognizable, you could spot it from a mile away. Since then, the styles have become two of Nike's most prized and celebrated silhouettes throughout the brand's longstanding history.
This Autumn, Nike fuses both into one as a part of their hybrid series, bringing back the Persian Violet color way on a silhouette that draws influence from both the Air Max BW and the Air Max 97. With an upper dressed in primarily Metallic Silver, an influence from the "Silver Bullet" 97, hits of Persian Violet on the sole and checks provide the shoe's single source of contrast. To finish it off, Black and White hit the throat and outsole, with the classic "Air Max" lettering and logo along the heel and insole.
