When the Air Max BW was originally released in 1991, the shoe quickly became one of the hottest and most desirable kicks on the market. It established its place as a staple for distance runners and, moreover, a favored accessory to the era's R&B and hip-hop stars--as proven with countless album covers. Just a mere 6 years later, the Air Max 97 dropped, with a sold so recognizable, you could spot it from a mile away. Since then, the two styles have become two of Nike's most prized and celebrated silhouettes in its longstanding history.
As first seen on a collaborative project with Skepta, the Nike Air Max 97/BW features a silhouette that fuses together both the Air Max 97 and Air Max BW designs into one. This time, Nike drops a Metallic Gold, University Red and Black iteration, constructed with leather and mesh materials. As the mesh allows breathability, the leather provides a luxurious element to the otherwise casual shoe. It is then finished off with a University Red branding detail on the tongue, hematite panels and a 3M reflective trim, wrapping around the mid-upper.
