It’s been almost 20 years since the shelves first saw the release of the Air Jordan 5 “Laney”, paying homage to Michael Jordan’s Emsley A. Laney High School, at which he famously failed to make the varsity hoops team as a sophomore. Now, the shoe receives its second retro release during this Winter season.
Switching things up from the 2000 version’s white-based upper, this iteration features a Maize and Royal Blue-dominant design. A bright, Maize colored in-sole lining provides dynamic contrast to the upper, while Royal Blue laces create an almost monotoned upper. Grey midsoles with classic speckled detailing thereafter compliment the look, while the Maize and translucent outsole construct a layered fashion. The shoe is then finished off with the shoe’s classic 3M tongue and a Maize-colored “23” hit on the outer heel panels.
