The nightmare artificial intelligence scenario was that machines would surpass human capabilities and become uncontrollable, leading to completely automated total global nuclear war, or angry, independent cyborgs, or something. Real life wasn’t quite so dramatic. The biggest problem from a development point of view is that artificial humans got smart enough to figure out they were being used to do jobs that meat humans wouldn’t, so they quit doing them. Really, anyone who wasn’t losing money on them took the androids’ side.
