Dropping a high top basketball shoe, only available in canvas or nylon, sporting a standard sole unit, into the middle of the 80s tech revolution wouldn’t have seemed like the recipe to set the world on fire, but the Nike Vandal achieved legend status on the back of its head turning looks. The original Vandal became instantly, massively popular thanks to the bold design, particularly the famous combination of metallic silver with red, white, and blue accenting, that lived up to the shoe’s aggressive billing. A well-placed cameo in The Terminator sealed the deal.
With three more decades of footwear design behind them, The Vandal is going to have to push the envelope further than ever if it wants to keep ahead of the curve, a challenge that Nike is only too happy to oblige, with a new, women’s edition of the legendary silhouette.
The Vandal 2K reinvents the popular silhouette. Low top construction sees the signature, multicolored ankle strap relocated to the forefoot, but that bit of cosmetic rearrangement pales in comparison to the main event, as two, stacked cupsoles elevate the Vandal to entirely new heights.
