The original Zoom Streak Spectrum Plus was a shoe that, design wise, was a bit ahead of its time. If you had never seen the somewhat obscure, 2003 runner before, you would be forgiven for thinking that the current craze for the bold style of the 90s resulted in some extreme style flames being applied to a performance silhouette, but you would still be wrong. The distinctive flames that proved to be so on point in contemporary fashion were actually part of the original 2003 design. The hot rod inspired graphics were added to spice up the design and stand out in a crowd. Mission accomplished.
But in the year 2018, how do you up the ante on such a daring, aesthetic choice? Simple, abandon any sense of restraint to the point where the original flames are the most conventional part of the design. ‘All over print’ doesn’t begin to do justice to the modern reinterpretation.
Landscape prints, abstract, multicolored designs, laser grids, kanji, checkerboard: they all converge on the sleek lines and curves of the Zoom Streak Spectrum in with reckless but glorious abandon. This is extreme for the aesthetic generation.
