Desinger Ryo Kashiwazaki’s hand crafted, natural leather interpretations of famous sneaker silhouettes make Hender Scheme one of the most unique brands in the world. The intricate, meticulous craftsmanship is simply too well executed to remain within the borders of ‘cult following,’ as a growing, widespread appreciation of the brand has resulted in a collaborative relationship with Adidas.
Where previous joint efforts highlighted classic Adidas models across different eras of design, the Adidas x Hender Scheme Autumn/Winter 2018 capsule focuses on one, iconic silhouette in the ZX500. While Dassler dabblers may gravitate towards the Superstar or the Stan Smith, many three stripes fanatics will cite the ZX500 as their top Adidas offering of all time. The ZX500 set a new standard for running shoe design, and the silhouette’s adoption as essential casual wear elevated it to legendary status.
Hender Scheme’s take on the ZX500 sets out to retain the original shoe’s athletic performance aura, by equipping two variations on Hender Scheme’s luxury leather with a modern Boost sole. One features a fully leather upper, with no post-processing treatment, intended to develop a unique patina with age and use. The second combines two leathers, a smooth nude leather and a wrinkle texture, crepe finish, pigment treated leather, with a mesh underlay based on the original, circa 1984 ZX500.
The collection is rounded out with accessories combining technical textiles with Hender Scheme’s crafted leather: a neoprene shoe carrying case with a tanned leather handle, and a 3 panel running cap with leather bill accents and a leather, adjustable strap.
