A-Cold-Wall* designer Samuel Ross presents a radical, conceptual reinterpretation of the Nike Zoom Vomero +5. A 2010 running silhouette touted as pillowy soft, courtesy of two separate Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot, the Zoom Vomero isn’t a typical choice of canvas for a cutting edge designer’s, high profile, collaborative effort. But for Samuel Ross, the creative mind behind A-Cold-Wall*, the unpretentious functionality and unique, minimalistic wire frame and mesh design comprise an ideal platform for a conceptual musing on a shoe’s age with use, and its subsequent relationship with the wearer.
The deconstructed look of the Zoom Vomero +5 is rendered in monochromatic black and white colorways that have been specifically engineered to accelerate and showcase aging. A technical, Japanese mesh softens in warm conditions, offering a sped-up version of the breaking in that would typically occur with hundreds of running miles, while Polyurethane coatings have been removed to produce a yellowing, visible aging effect.
