Influential artist and designer Sneakerwolf pairs up with Asics for a strikingly original take on the 1993 performance runner, the Gel Kayano. Dubbed “Anarchy in the Edo Period,” Sneakerwolf’s design applies a punk inspired flame graphic motif to aesthetic conventions of the late feudal era.
The ironclad rigidity of the class hierarchy of the Tokugawa Shogunate included a series of sumptuary regulations that dictated what clothing that members of a given social class could wear. Among things forbidden to commoners were silk garments, and colors associated with nobility, like purple, red and gold.
The “Anarchy in the Edo” concept takes the visual confrontation aspect of punk back in time, and applies these taboo elements, along with the previously mentioned flame graphic to a mesh and leather construction, with translucent, Tiger stripe caging.
